Of all the things that give me joy throughout a typical day, my many-cups-per-day tea practice is high on the list. Returning to the kettle again and again gives my days a comforting rhythm, and also give me many opportunities to experience the restorative, therapeutic benefits of plant medicine infusing in my cup - whether it’s camellia sinensis (“true” tea) or an herbal blend.
You could say my typical day is one long tea ritual - but it definitely doesn’t look formal or fancy! Those highly decorative ceremonies are wonderful to take part in, but they can also feel intimidating to a beginner - or just unrealistic to fit into a typical modern daily life.
The truth is that any cup of tea is an opportunity for a few moments of slowness and connection, whether you’re drinking out of a paper cup in the school pickup line or at home with your favorite cup.
In my latest YouTube video I attempt to simplify and demystify the idea of tea ritual by sharing my own daily tea practices. At the end of the video I invite you to share some slow moments of connection over tea with me: whatever tea you can find, and wherever you happen to be.

I hope you’re enjoying my new video series - I’m really enjoying making them! Let me know what you think. Is tea ritual/meditation/mindfulness something that feels a little more accessible to you now? How will you incorporate these ideas into your daily life?

I picked up my “tea for one” teapot and cup set at a secondhand store and haven’t been able to find this exact option available online, but this one is pretty close.
In the video I’m drinking a Jin Xuan milk oolong with a naturally derived creamy flavor that comes from the withering and oxidation process - not by adding milk or any artificial flavors. It’s delicious!
